Behind it all, is the kind of baking I grew up with. On my mother’s side, my roots trace back to Banat, a fertile region in Serbia, known for its rich agricultural land—much like the Netherlands.
This connection to the land has shaped generations of home bakers, where simple ingredients like wheat, walnuts, and apricots become something deeply meaningful.
In Banat, people were often called Lala (Tulip), and their wives Sosa. They are known for their calm spirit, warmth, and quiet hospitality—welcoming you with full tables, coffee already poured, a small glass of rakija waiting, and always something prepared for you to take home.
In this culture, food is never just food—it is care, generosity, and a way of making people feel at home.
By bringing these traditions to Amsterdam, this micro bakery carries that same spirit—offering pastries that feel like being welcomed into someone’s home.
Fun fact about Lala - Long ago, their traditional clothing was often embroidered with tulips—a small detail that now feels like a gentle bridge between my homeland and the Netherlands.
